It can be hardened and tempered to achieve desired mechanical properties.While 403 stainless steel offers moderate corrosion resistance, it is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic stainless steels like 304 or 316. It is better suited for applications in mild corrosive environments.This steel can achieve high hardness levels after heat treatment, making it suitable for applications where hardness and wear resistance are important.It has fair weldability, but preheating is often required, and post-weld heat treatment may be necessary to reduce the risk of cracking.
